One city in China is coupling it’s dairy industry with its electric grid, harvesting methane from manure to produce electricity. This is a pretty cool idea, and I think west Texas should look into doing the same. If you’ve ever driven through Plainview, or nearby you’ll know that those feed lots produce a nasty smell. All of that manure can be used for something other than fertilizer. The Fertilizer is still a byproduct, but GE has an engine that the Chinese town is using which will run off the biogas from the manure. This engine will then produce electricity for the whole city. Imagine if some cities in west Texas did this, then they could use the Wind farms for powering their automobiles, or sell the extra power.
