mowerMy brother gave me his mower that he wasn’t using. I consider it an early birthday present. I’ve wanted a Reel Mower for a while, even if it was just to try something new. Of course, I couldn’t justify buying one. But, since he gave me one he wasn’t using this new mower could be put to the test.

One thing that took me several passes to get used to is that the blade is inset from the wheels. On my gas-powered push mower the blade cuts all the way out to the wheels. So the Reel Mower takes several more passes than a gas mower. In addition, you might need to go over difficult areas a few times, instead of rolling over it the one time with a gas mower.

The good points were that it wasn’t too difficult to push, and seemed to do a comparable job to my gas-mower. It was nice to mow in the quiet too. For some reason this mower just makes me feel more like I’m caring for my lawn instead of taming it with a beastly tool; but that’s just me.

I’d like to use this at least every other week because Reel Mowers emit no pollution and use no gasoline. Gas mowers have very unregulated engines and produce lots of pollution. Mine spews smoke for about 2minutes before it really warms up and runs well. I still smell like exhaust after using it though.
