Parker County Courthouse

Recently the Weatherford Telegram ran a story about suspected ground water pollution by disposal wells in the county. Then, MSNBC ran a story about fears of Benzene in the air. Nearby Aledo has been dealing with the issue as well. It seems fears are mounting in Parker County over the effects of Gas Wells.

Although Natural Gas and Oil Companies (like Chesapeake) usually make sure that any environmental responsibilities are handled by service companies (like XTO, Halliburton and Schlumberger), it seems that some probems may be occurring in the area. As a Christian who cares about God’s creation, I am concerned for the well-being of the area’s people, and natural beauty (wildlife is affected too).

I feel that no matter what the cause is, there should be some sort of investigation into the groundwater pollution. If nothing else, it will set people’s minds at ease. Yet, if a connection between poor practices in disposal wells and groundwater pollution is found, then the problem can be corrected. Regarding the Benzene issue, I think that EPA efforts to curb the pollutants should happen here instead of worrying about CO2 as a poison.
